Homework Rationale

Students in 5th Grade will complete daily homework.  It is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their learning experiences in school.  It reinforces what has been taught in class, prepares them for upcoming lessons, teachers responsibility and independence, and helps students develop positive study habits.

Amount and Frequency Homework

Students are expected:

1.      To read at home for 15 minutes each day

2.      To study their weekly spelling list

3.      To complete schoolwork that was not finished in class.

Homework needs to be returned the next school day.

Guidelines for Completing Homework

1.      All homework will be completed neatly and on time.

2.      Students will do homework to the best of their ability.

3.      Students are responsible for completing homework missed due to an absence.

Students will make up their work at home or at school. Work not finished at school is sent home as homework. Any work not finished can be made up during independent time.

Incomplete or Missing Homework

Teachers will contact parents if a pattern of incomplete or missing homework develops.

If there is a legitimate reason why a student is unable to finish their homework, the parent should contact the teacher at school. This may be in the form of a signed note, an email, or a phone call.  The teacher will fill out an absence form with all assignments that can be completed at home. Some assignments are not possible to make up. (Presentations, speakers, etc.)
